In 1974, Oscar 'Ringo' Bonavena, one of our most beloved and respected Argentine boxers of all time, decided to make his mark and promote the Malvinas cause around the world, making the most of major events of the era by always wearing his custom shirt.
The story behind this t-shirt is fascinating. In short, it stems from his close friendship with Héctor García, a journalist and businessman who participated in "Operation Condor" (Sep 28, 1966), hijacking an Aerolíneas Argentinas plane and diverting it to the Malvinas Islands to raise seven national flags for 36 hours.
The mission accomplished by those men, along with the national cause, inspired Ringo to create this unique t-shirt. On the front, it reads in English "Las Malvinas son de Argentina", and on the back, printed large so there is no doubt, "Las Malvinas pertenecen a Argentina", along with its wearer and the dates that immortalized him. And here at ÜBEDOR, we gave it our own touch by adding a pair of boxing gloves hanging over the chest.
